Pasting plaster is a characteristic external treatment method of traditional Chinese medicine. In ancient times, plaster was called thin paste. It was boiled into a gel with vegetable oil or animal oil and applied to one side of cloth, paper or skin. It can be attached to the affected area or specific acupoints for a long time. It can reduce swelling and pain, detoxify and generate muscle, and can also remove wind and cold, qi and blood, and clear meridians and collaterals. Pasting plaster seems simple, but it is very particular.
If you accidentally cause muscle contusion or joint and ligament strain during exercise or labor, do not immediately use external plasters for treating bruises. Most of these plasters are used to promote blood circulation to achieve the purpose of relieving pain, reducing swelling and dissipating bruising. After human tissue is damaged, an inflammatory reaction will occur immediately, local swelling will slowly appear, and then compression of nerves will cause pain. This reaction can reach its peak within 24 hours. During this period, the pain-relieving cream will accelerate local blood circulation, leading to an increase in fluid exudation from blood vessels and aggravating local swelling and pain. The correct way is to apply the plaster 24 hours after the injury.
Before sticking the plaster, wipe the skin of the affected area with a hot towel. If there is any hair, you need to shave it off to avoid affecting the paste fastness. After determining the lesion site, the plaster center should be attached to the lesion center. Before sticking the plaster, rub the skin with ginger cubes for better effect.
Ginger has a pungent taste. External wiping can dilate blood vessels, accelerate blood circulation, promote pores to open, and allow the active ingredients in the plaster to enter the lesion area more quickly and fully. Rubbing the skin with ginger can also play an anti-allergic role and prevent allergic phenomena such as itching and rash on the plaster area. It should be noted that wiping with ginger is mostly used before the use of plasters for treating cold diseases.
When the weather is cold, the plaster is not easy to stick. You can apply it with a hot water bag so that it can stick firmly and enhance the therapeutic effect. When the skin is itchy, burning, and tingling, you should stop applying it. Do not stick a plaster for 24 hours. After a long time, the plaster will not only fail, but also be bad for the skin.
