The Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration was established in June 1958, and was placed under the management of Guangdong Province by the former Ministry of Land and Resources in July 1999. In March 2000, the administrative functions of the Bureau were merged into the newly established Provincial Department of Land and Resources, and the main body of the business was independently operated. The business was managed by the former Provincial Department of Land and Resources, and was renamed the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration.

Since its establishment, the Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources has always remained unchanged, and the geological prospecting results have been fruitful. As the main force of geological prospecting in the province, 158 kinds of minerals have been discovered in the land of Jianghuai, 123 kinds of proven reserves and more than 2,000 mineral fields. In recent years, 1 extra-large deposit, 17 large metal deposits and 20 medium-sized metal deposits have been discovered and evaluated, and a total of 1.10 billion tons of iron, 3.48 million tons of copper, 2.65 million tons of molybdenum, 490,000 tons of tungsten, 2.90 million tons of lead and zinc, 278 tons of gold, and 1,000 tons of silver have been discovered and evaluated. The exploration of mineral resources has supported four mining cities such as Huaibei, Huainan, Maanshan, and Tongling, and supported the birth and development of mining groups such as "Lianghuai" coal and electricity, Tongling Nonferrous Metals, Maanshan Iron and Steel, and Conch, as well as a number of resource-based enterprises. In recent years, the exploration and discovery of more typical resources are: Jinzhai Shapinggou molybdenum mine, proved molybdenum metal amount of 2.4594 million tons, a world-class deposit, rewriting the history of no large mines in the eastern section of Dabie Mountain; Huaining Yueshan iron-copper mine, the first large-scale magnetite-rich ore in our province; Lujiang Shaxi area has proved copper resources of 1.50 million tons, becoming another large-scale copper resource base in our province after Tongling; Zhaojikou lead-zinc mine in the east, is the first case of structural hydrothermal type large-scale lead-zinc mine in our province, identified lead-zinc resources of 610,000 tons, refreshed the history of looking for large-scale metal deposits in southwestern Anhui; Xuancheng Chating copper-gold polymetallic mine, discovered copper metal amount of 1.69 million tons, gold metal amount of 233 tons, of which industrial copper metal amount 650,000 The amount of symbiotic and associated gold metals is 83 tons, making another major breakthrough in prospecting in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
