In an interview with 36Kr, Qian Wei, founder of Koala Entertainment, admitted that they have made a lot of money by borrowing from the past, "We have a film 80,000 cost, and finally recovered more than one million box office." In the past two years, they can make more than 20 big movies a year on average. Among the top 10 revenue rankings on major video websites, you can easily find several films produced by Koala, which has also accumulated a lot of channel resources for them.
But when the time entered this year, the online movie market began to reshuffle. Last year, more than 600 films in the entire market suddenly surged to more than 2,000 films. The era of four or two sets of catties has passed, and you will find that the production costs of the top-ranked network universities are basically more than one million, which has reached the level of second- and third-tier theaters.

After the market dividend period passed, Koala Entertainment started their new layout this year: targeting the female market and doing high-quality online student content. "This was actually planned before, and the reshuffle is certain." Qian Wei said that they basically did not release many films in the first half of this year, and are preparing for future "slow" content.
Koala Entertainment first changed the IP incubation method. They formed a comic team, positioning themselves as long-form world-view works with a serialization time of more than three years. After these works were validated by the market, they gradually launched corresponding network dramas, big movies, and other derivative content.

Qian Wei said that in the future, the head of their own women to the work will be launched in this mode, do IP amplification, and then do games and other aspects of the derivative, they have also reached a number of games, film and television companies cooperation.
At the same time as starting to plan long-term IP, Koala Entertainment is still building its own channel, "Just like the mobile game tide of the year, the channel will become more and more strong after the reshuffle, and CP has the voice over will decline." Qian Wei said that this is also planning for the future, not letting himself be completely controlled by the platform. Now Koala's practice is to do women-oriented PGC live broadcast content.
At present, they have connected to the WeChat Mini Program and independently developed a PGC live broadcast channel. They have jointly launched customized live broadcast content with some women to meet the needs of these large graphic content upgrades to video content. At the same time, they have accumulated traffic in the vertical field, preparing for their own female-oriented comics and online student content in the future. Now this channel is still being tested, and it only broadcasts live at 8 o'clock every night, with an average online audience of around a few thousand.
"The feedback from the official accounts we have cooperated with is OK, and we hope to turn it into a women's channel that broadcasts live all day in the future." Qian Wei said that the platform does not need to be very large, and the purpose is to form an internal cycle of IP incubation, channel promotion, and monetization. Of course, building their own channel does not mean that Koala has to give up the platform channel. The next few works they produce have in-depth cooperation with the platform.
After identifying a new content incubation and channel promotion model, Qian Wei said that they have also completed an upgrade in the production of core online student content. Now Koala has also adopted the core system of screenwriters and producers in production. A large number of works launched in the past are actually doing talent screening. "For example, directors who cannot adapt to this model are eliminated by us." Qian Wei said that among the dozens of directors they have cooperated with, only two are left.
In the future, koala entertainment will be promoted at the pace of about 10 online movies per year, part of which is to slow down the content of women based on comics, and to monetize long-term IP, and the other part is to ensure the active level of koala brand and create flowing market content.
In terms of the team, Qian Wei was an investor who served as the investment director of Chuangfang and the founder of Huanyu Interactive Media. He was responsible for the overall layout of the company and the planning of original film and television content. In terms of comics and live broadcasts, there were two other partners in charge. Fu Tao, a partner in comics, used to be the producer of Xishan Ju games.
